My name is Kot Takahashi. Probably just like you, I've wanted to be an actor since I was young. However, there was a problem...
I had NO industry connections, NO degree, no fancy TV/FILM demo reel, and I lived hundreds of miles away from Hollywood...
Everyone was telling me that that the only way to break into the industry was to move to Los Angeles, spend the next 10 years as a starving artist, and hope that one day (after years of auditioning) that I'd make my big break.
However, I don't know about you, but the whole "starving artist" thing wasn't really my jam. I wanted to be able to do the thing I love the most (acting), while advancing my career, making those great industry connections, AND earning a decent living.
Well, I started looking for work in my little home town of Santa Rosa (a city in northern California that you've probably never heard of). It was by no means a big acting hub, but I was able to book my first ever commercial which paid me $700.
Wowza! That was about as much as I made in two weeks working my regular day job.
I was instantly hooked. I figured if I could replace my normal job with commercials instead, I'd be able to gain experience on professional sets, make connections in the industry, AND free up my time to focus on acting in more films (which typically don't pay you very much when you're starting out).
Well, fast forward a couple of years, and I was earning a full-time living just solely doing commercial work! (The first job that only paid $700 suddenly seemed very small).
Not only was this a more fun way to make money, but it actually gave me tons of free time! See, because commercials pay so much, just 1 to 2 days on set paid for all my bills and then some. Now I had all this free time to focus on acting, instead of what all my friends were doing, which was just wasting away most of their time at their dead end waiting jobs.
Why weren't more actors taking advantage of this hidden gem? Well, simply because they think that booking commercials is hard. Or they don't know that there are TONS of commercials filming in every city. OR they think commercials are beneath them.
But the truth is... even the most famous of actors do commercials (I just saw Samuel L. Jackson on some banking commercial hahaha).
